Women's Health

Our menstrual cycle is so critical to our overall health, so much so, that the American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists have said that menstruation is the fifth vital sign ~ so it is just as important as an gauge of health as our temperature, breathing rate, pulse and blood pressure!

The menstrual cycle is a beautiful ebb and flow of hormones, but when the balance of these hormones isn’t quite right there may be:

  • Painful or heavy periods

  • Missing periods

  • Irregular periods

  • PMS mood changes such as low mood, apathy, irritability or anger before your period.

  • Painful or heavy periods

  • Irregular periods

  • Menstrual Migraines that occur at ovulation or at menstruation

  • Fluid retention

  • Breast tenderness

  • Facial hair or acne

  • PCOS

  • Endometriosis

  • Return of old symptoms when coming off the pill such as acne, PMS, heavy periods or painful periods.

How Naturopathy can help

When supporting hormones, Naturopaths consider much more than just the hormones themselves. Hormonal imbalances are clever little signs from the body giving us clues that something else needs our attention and support. Our hormones like oestrogen and progesterone don’t just become imbalanced, they are merely the messengers letting us know something might not be quite balanced. When we understand and begin to address the underlying drivers we are able to better support hormonal balance and ensure better long term health. Some drivers of hormonal imbalances include: Poor blood sugar regulation, nutrient deficiencies, stress, poor gut health, sluggish liver & thyroid dysfunction.

Nutritional Support

Everyone is unique and therefore their requirement for certain micronutrients and macronutrients will vary. Karina uses individualised nutrition suggestions to help support the body and address any nutritional deficiencies.

Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine has been used for 100s of years to support female reproductive health and to health tonfiy the reproductive system. Herbal medicine is tailored to each specific individual and what they need based on symptoms and blood tests.

Testing

Karina may discuss with your whether further testing may be useful to better support you. Testing might be to assess for nutrient deficiencies, liver health, thyroid function, gut health or assessing hormone levels at a certain time of your cycle to better tailor treatment to you.
